The latest Overwatch League group was revealed as New York Excelsior, or NYXL. The team has been announced early Monday morning via a press release, along with a video.
Excelsior have already picked up the prior LW Blue roster from Korea's Apex tournament, along with this particular team's coaching staff. Both players will represent Korea from the Overwatch World Cup in BlizzCon in just a few weeks. Here is the seventh group officially declared as a part of this Overwatch League, which will start pre-season play in December, followed by a regular season in January. As part of the statement, Heroes Never Die had a chance to briefly speak to Scott Tester, the group's director of play personnel about how New York Excelsior chose their name and emblem. How can you guys settle on the name? Excelsior is the state motto of New York and in addition, it means upward in Latin. So, I think it kind of embodies each the values we are trying to represent and the spirit of the team we're trying to build. You've one of the most unique logos in the group, can you talk a little bit about the process of designing this? It is something which we have put a good deal of consideration into. The notion is that the lines and the shapes sort of represent things that are particular to New York like the subway systems, and the skylines and the grid of the city so to speak. We were actually looking for something struck a balance between the kind of team we wanted to build and that was representative of what we are trying to put together, but at the exact same time was a cool symbol and striking visually.
